MAKE A DONATION
The And Then Initiative, Inc., is a community-based non-profit organization whose goal is to support and promote activities directed at furthering the well-being, positive image, and human rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community, its allies, and low to moderate income residents in Mohave County.
In small towns and rural areas the LGBTQ+ community is poorly represented even though the population density is usually equal to larger cities.
Following the overwhelming success of our Inaugural Pride event in 2019 we identified a need for more activities, services and venues to better serve our growing LGBTQ community.
Many individuals came up to us during the event and shared their stories of how they contemplated suicide because they thought they were alone, others talked about wanting to moving away from the community they loved because they felt so isolated and under represented, and still others talked about how they turned to drugs because of the abuse they dealt with at home as a result of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The other crucial thing they ALL mentioned is how important this event was for them, how they felt so overwhelmingly loved and accepted and how they never imagined there could be such a massive community right under their noses.
It is for that reason we formed our non-profit. We have many events planned throughout the year now and a strong community to support them. With the money raised by these events we plan to develop scholarship, grant and nutrition assistance programs as well as a health and mental health resource directory.
This gofundme campaign will be used to purchase a space, a center where members of the community can come relax, network, job search, take part in free seminars and classes, and find the resources they need to live their best life.
The funds you provide will not be wasted; they WILL SAVE AND ENRICH LIVES!
HOW CAN I HELP?
WE'RE SEARCHING FOR VOLUNTEERS, PLEASE JOIN US!
Education is the most important thing any of us can do. We live in a time where people still hold outdated beliefs about the LGBTQ+ community and it is important to make sure people know the facts.
Do your best not to get angry and lash out when people ask inappropriate questions or make uneducated remarks, instead try to listen to what they have to say and then provide them with an alternative train of thought using factual information and personal experiences.
Change takes time and we have to be willing to take the time to make it happen!
We have opportunities and a need for volunteers often, whether it's for one of our many events we plan, or just handing out flyers and pamphlets your help is always needed and appreciated!
